Meet our Latest Kids!
Well, our sweet little city farm is growing! If you have been following along we transformed the kid’s playhouse into a chicken coop and they have never been happier about a change! We finally made a trip to a chicken breeder not to far from our house, Cindy from Bird and Bee Farm was great to work with. She had multiple varieties to chose from and the place was so clean and tidy. If you are anywhere around the Rockdale, Texas area you should seek her out, here is a link to her Facebook page. We have added some other friends as well, I will introduce you to them all…
We walked through coops of chickens and decided on four different kinds. Seeing how we know NOTHING about chicken farming we went with a variety, crossed our fingers and hoped we’d like what we got! These chicks were my daughter, Mae’s birthday wish come true so she went through and picked her favorites. Being the sweet sister she is, Mae let the boys pick one…I was please with the extra fluffy cute ones! Here are the girls, in pecking order, because there really is such a thing and it’s obvious in our coop…
To top it off my youngest, Sadler, who was quite the chicken tamer loves all things furry and wanted something he could carry around and just about squeeze to death on a regular basis. The cats kinda run from his over anxious loving so he decided Guinea Pigs would be the perfect pint size snuggle buddy.
The first piggy we bought was so cute, but got sick two days later and ended up dying, then so did it’s replacement, and the other piggie we got had been exposed to the first one. Turns out a bad/sick batch had come from the breeder to the store and we ended up having to get the other little guy on antibiotics. He turned out healthy and fine and once we knew he was good we added another (they like to have friends) only to find out they didn’t get along. I’m talking about biting and fighting mean, didn’t like each other. We traded the meanie in for a new one and now we have these two fun and healthy guinea pigs that get along just fine. It was a complete ordeal and I was exhausted, lol! Who knew there was such a thing as ‘As The Guinea Pig Turns’, total soap opera!
I have to admit I love the Guinea Pigs, they are so cute and funny. They squeak and squawk, nibble and nudge and we carry them around in little piggie pouches my mom made.
We have had so much fun growing this brood of farm animals that is now up to 14 animal mouths to feed. The kids are doing great with their feeding responsibilities and mom is having fun playing with all the new babies! Hope you enjoyed the tour…and remember ANY advice you have on caring for this crew is always welcome! Do you follow me on Pinterest? I’m always pinning pretty things and fluffy animals, come join me!
