Recycled Mailbox – A Start to Organizing For Fall

Recycled Mailbox Sorter Updated with Hardware

My back to school organizing mode has kicked into full swing though! So much to do…school supplies, clothes, event and activity planning. I have a few projects I will be sharing over the coming weeks to help you get organized, of course in a junky fun way.

This mailbox makeover came to life because I always feel like I am leaving something at the back door for someone to swing by and pick up. Under the mat is so 2014. I wanted something unique to welcome passing guests. This thrift store purchase was just what I had in mind.

After painting with a homemade shade of chalk paint I applied a touch of wax for that finished off gleam.

But it was still a little boring. While hunting in North Carolina I found a box of mismatched hardware. These little gems came home with me for just a few dollars. It’s a good idea to save any old hardware you take off furniture you may buy, you never know what you can use it for later!

I need to drill holes for the hardware and my husband taught me a good trick to get the right size hole the first time. This might be old news to you, but I think it is genius and am slightly embarrassed I hadn’t thought of it before. Each drill bit is the same width tip to tip, so just line it up with the hardware and use a slightly bigger bit if you are sliding a piece through or a little smaller if making a hole that a screw will need to thread through. Like this…

I can’t lie…power tools really do make me feel handy.

Here is the finished project. I haven’t hung it yet, because that’s a whole other project in itself, but it will go by my side door and I will post a picture as soon as it’s up.

I also plan on recapping the conferences as soon as time allows, but there is one little detail itching to get out.

If you read my last post you heard me talking about taking the time to see God in the small moments. Watching and collecting little pebbles along the path God lays, leading to the big moments…

I met some ladies online before the last conference I attended. We agreed to meet for dinner prior to conference kickoff. Dinner was incredible. Nine women each told their story, we opened up, shared our hearts and got to know each other. We prayed for each other, with each other, ate together, sat together and supported each other over the course of the long weekend. My prayer request for just one friend was answered in an abundant way. How am I certain God orchestrated these friendships? Eight hundred women attended She Speaks. I was placed in this tight knit group with the one lady there that brought this gift for anyone who crossed her path…

She literally passed out pebbles. Pebbles. Literally.

Ok God, I hear you, you’ve got this. So, onward I go in search of more pebbles on my path. (read what I’m talking about here)

This turned out beautifully! I love the addition of the hardware. It really adds character. I redid one of these mail organizers too but now I think it needs more detail…

Hello! Do you know where to purchase the bags of pebbles or where I could find directions to make my own? Thanks so much.

Amazon is usually my go to for finding things, so check there and I believe you can print some sayings off from a word document you make, just tweak it till you get the right sizes. Cut the phrases to fit the bottom of the pebbles (they are flat-ish) and then use Mod Podge to secure them the the bottom! hope this helps!
