Easy DIY Scrap Wood Coat RackThis little scrap wood project is perfect for a small spot you need to organize. This summer while I was at a blogger conference we had the chance to make these precious little coat hangers and I knew this would be a perfect solution to wrangle my daughter’s headbands. She loves an accessory and it’s hard to keep them all organized.
You could easily use this concept for coats, bags, dish towels or whatever it is you need to get in line. Start with a piece of scrap wood, fence board would be perfect, and cut it to the length you need. Again – the reason I love DIY! If you need a long hanging area or small you can make it custom to fit your space. You can see the rest of my daughter’s cute room and the tutorial for this wall hanging idea here!)Paint your board. I actually used a gloss paint on this and thought it was a great variation from the typical flat chalk type paint I use so frequently, gloss kind of bumps up the glam a notch. Cute hardware is key to this fun piece. I selected these sweet white glass knobs from Liberty Hardware for my coat hanger. Aren’t they a great pop against that glossy grey? You could use mismatched hardware from your stash if you are a semi-hoarder like me and save everything. You could also use a mix of knobs and hooks depending on how you want to use this simple hanging piece.
Drill holes to accept whatever hardware you choose and make sure the bolts you use to attached the hardware are the correct length, not to long. I suggest using a double hanger on the back (versus one in the middle) to hold the items you hang without tilting. If you are going to hang heavy items you might consider using sheetrock anchors to hang with.A few easy steps and you have a great custom place to hang all your goodies! Let me know what color and kind of hardware you would use, just curious about the ideas y’all have!
